Parent Education

MORE HEALTH provides parent education classes in partnership with school districts, Tampa General Hospital, All Children's Hospital, and local law enforcement agencies.
Healthy and Fit
This free four-week program designed for children (ages 7-15) and their parents focuses on the importance of making nutritious food choices and getting regular physical activity. At the beginning of each session, participants are provided a healthy meal. During the first week, all participants receive pedometers and the adults receive a free health screening by Tampa General Hospital nurses. Families receive a nutrition lesson during the second week to help them understand how to read food labels and make healthy snacks. Week three focuses on the importance of daily physical activity. Parents and their children join a fitness expert in a workout session using stretch bands. During the final week, a Clinical Psychologist informs parents about emotional eating, overeating, and portion size. The children receive MORE HEALTH's heart lesson while the psychologist is speaking to the parents. Click Here For More Information
Firearm Safety
Law enforcement and MORE HEALTH team up to host this free evening class to help parents understand the dangers of weapons in the home and how they can keep their families safe. Parents leave the class with a gun safety lock, at no charge, as a result of local donations.
Oral Health Education for Young Mothers
An oral health lesson was developed to reach teen mothers enrolled in high school classes. This lesson is interactive and engages young mothers with hands-on activities using tooth models and other visual props.
