  • During the 2008-2009 school year, 138,000 students in grades K-12 received a MORE HEALTH lesson in Hillsborough County, FL
  • During the 2008-2009 school year, 58,000 students in grades K-12 received a MORE HEALTH lesson in Pinellas County, FL
  • A collaborative effort by community sponsors enables the lessons to be taught free of charge in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.
  • Every lesson includes pre and post-visit lesson materials(videos, books, vocabulary, activities, etc.).

  FIVE SENSES "Five Alive"

Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching... a feast for the senses!  These five things we do every day can be facinating to a child.  Exploring all of our senses through hands-on models and games teaches students how their brain works with their body.

POISON PREVENTION I "Bites, Stings, and Other Things"

Students help Tyrone the Dinosaur get through his Awful, Rotten, Icky, Very Poisonous Day.  They learn about look-alike products, spiders, and snakes.  The lesson concludes with a "Stingray Shuffle."

  BONES I "Bo Wo Wones"

"The hip bone's connected to the thigh bone..." yes, everybody needs bones.  This lesson teaches children the importance of building healthy bones.  Students see and touch simulated bones as they build an entire skeleton.

  BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY "Safe Wheels and Safe Walkers"

Let the helmet take the hit!  Protect your brain and be a part of the Safe Wheels' team.  Safe Walkers learn the importance of following the rules for pedestrian safety.  Students actively build a "Safe Town" while learning bicycle and pedestrian safety rules.  They sing along with Spike and learn it is cool to wear a helmet.

  PHYSICAL EXAM "Check Up and Check Out"

Here is every child's chanse to be a doctor or nurse for a day.  Basic anatomy is introduced through a study of our senses and major organs.  Stethoscopes, penlights, and tuning forks turn the classroom into the examining rooms.

  DENTAL I "Super Smile"

Smile, your teeth are showing!  Why teeth are so important to us?  What is plaque and how does it cause tooth decay?  This program answers basic questions about teeth and dental care.  Children practice brushing and flossing techniques on plastic models and receive a free toothbrush.

  BONES II : BONES & OSTEOPOROSIS EDUCATION "The Bone Zone"

The skeleton inside you... join "Mr. Bones" for an in-depth study  of our skeleton system and osteoporosis prevention.  Students cheer with Cal Calcium, D The Vitamin, and Eddie Exercise as they learn how to keep their bones healthy, safe, and strong.  Building a skeleton with 206 individual bones makes this lesson a favorite.

  PERSONAL HYGIENE "Scrubba Bubba"

Meet Scrubba Bubba and his friends, Vanessa Virus, Dirty Harry, and Larry Lice.  Personal hygiene skills are emphasized as students explore how they can look good and feel good.

  DENTAL II "Tooth Town Showdown"

Welcome to Tooth Town!  Every child participates in the Tooth Town saga helping Sheriff Tough-Tooth fight off the cruel Plaque Gang.  Students learn five ways to protect teeth: brushing, flossing, using fluoride, eating a healthy diet, and going to the dentist regularly.

  FIREARM SAFETY I "Respect Not Risk"

Sudents learn how to make safe decisions in potentially dangerous situations.  An emergency helicopter and a trauma surgeon come to you via video.  Law enforcement officers join a MORE HEALTH instructor in practicing the HALT! HANDS OFF! GET OUT! GET HELP! Procedures for firearm safety.

  POISON PREVENTION II "poison Patrol"

Enlist in the Poison Patrol!  MORE HEALTH wants children to be poison safe!  Students identify common poisons found in and around their homes, from cleaning supplies to product look-alikes.  Poison Patrol recruits learn how to prevent poisonings and respond to emergencies.

  NUTRITION "Pyramid Power"

Let's eat right!  Students learn about the six nutrients they need in their diet everyday and how they help them GO, GLOW, and GROW!  Building their own food pyramid with life-size foods and brainstorming healthy food choices gives students a chance to put their knowledge of the five food groups and good nutrition into practice.

   HEART "Walk-Through Heart"

Go with the flow and learn how to be heart healthy!  A giant walth-through heart helps students understand the route blood travels to the heart, lungs, and body.  A drop of blood, giant lungs, and models of cells(the skin, muscle, bone, and nerve cells) make this journey through the heart come alive for students.

  SKIN CANCER PREVENTION "Sun Smarts"

Living in the Sunshine State, we all need to have "Sun Smarts."  This informative program allows students to act as Detectives in the "Sun Smarts Cover Up."  They learn the importance of clothing, hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses in preventing skin damage and skin cancers.

   BRAIN "Mission Control"

The brain is the most fascinating part of the human body.  Students learn the parts of the brain through the use of large visuals and brain models.  Emphasis is placed on protecting the brain from both trauma injuries and drug and alcohol abuse.

   SAFETY AND FIRST AID "S.A.F.E. Team"

Join our S.A.F.E. team and learn how to A.C.T. in an emergency.  Basic first aid is taught for severe bleeding, fractures, choking, and burns, while participating in mock emergency situations.

Students are presented facts about firearms through the use of statistics, pictures, x-rays, and life-size models.  A law enforcement officer brings "the real world" and firearm safety to the classroom.

   FITNESS, NUTRITION & BONE HEALTH "Fit For Life!"

Hands-on interactive activities are presented to grab the attention of middle school students.  Prevention of osteoporosis, obesity, heart disease, and diabetes are highlighted.  Students track their activities and diet and set personal goals to be "Fit For Life!"\

  TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION/SEXUAL ABUSE "Choice Not Chance"

Abstinence is the ke to avoiding the risks and consequenses of sexual activity.  Teens explore how their lives would change if they had a baby or contracted a STD.  Computerized infant simulators are available with this lesson.

   ORGAN EDUCATION, ABUSE & DONATION "Live Life, Give Life"

Students explore organs, their function, and how diseases and abuse can lead to organ failure.  This prevention dispels misconceptions about blood, organ, and marrow donation as well as tissue transplants.

   TRAUMA EDUCATION "Trauma Is No Accident"

Slides, models, and simulations emphasize the importance of wearing a seat belt and not drinking and driving.  Cell phones, music, and friends are all distrations that can lead to trauma.  An interactive discussion provides students with statistics and information about preventing brain and spinal cord injuries.

  NUTRITION AND FITNESS "Make a Change for Life: eat Healthy, Be Active"

This updated and interactive lesson encourages students to evaluate their eating habits and lifestyles.  The consequences of unhealthy habits and obesity are explained.  Hands on activities and visuals help explain the importance of good nutrition; such as eating a nutritious breakfast, controlling portions, limiting fats and sugar, and using the new MyPyramid to make healthy choices.  Being active is emphasized using the Activity Pyramid as well as Food/Activity Diaries and BMI computations.

  HIV/AIDS AND HEPATITIS EDUCATION "Don't Risk It!"

Abstinence Is Definately Safe... is the message throughout this innovative program that will help students in preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis.  They will learn how the choices they make can keep them healthy or put them at risk.  The message is "Don't Risk It!"
